73º aniversário de Anthony Braxton
Anthony Braxton, compositor e multi-instrumentista norte-americano, é aclamado pela crítica como um dos mais importantes músicos dos últimos 50 anos.
Braxton tem uma carreira invulgarmente prolifera, com cerca de duas centenas de álbuns editados desde os anos sessenta, cobrindo áreas muito distintas: desde a composição de várias óperas à edição em 1969 de For Alto, o primeiro álbum de saxofone solo da história.
Um dos primeiros membros da AACM, as suas formações iniciais incluíram alguns dos músicos fundamentais do período pós-Coltrane, como Wadada Leo Smith, Roscoe Mitchell, Henry Threadgill, Leroy Jenkins, Muhal Richard Abrams e George Lewis. Braxton viria a associar-se igualmente a outros músicos que marcaram a história do jazz como Julius Hemphill, Sam Rivers e os pianistas Cecil Taylor e Dave Brubeck.
Nos anos setenta formou o grupo Circle, com Chick Corea, Dave Holland e Barry Altschul. A sua colaboração com Dave Holland resultou, entre outros, no belíssimo álbum Conference of the Birds.
Nos anos oitenta liderou aquele que é citado como um dos seus melhores grupos com Marilyn Crispell no piano, Mark Dresser no contrabaixo e Gerry Hemmingway na bateria.
Braxton exerceu uma influência decisiva em várias figuras de destaque da música actual como John Zorn, Steve Lehman, Tyshawn Sorey ou Mary Halvorson.
Formado em Filosofia pela Roosevelt University, e altamente atraído pela matemática e pelo xadrez, o compositor recebeu a distinção de génio pela MacArthur Fellowship, vencendo ainda vários prémios de grande prestígio como a Guggenheim Fellowship ou o Doris Duke Award.

Anthony Braxton actuará no Solilóquios, excepcionalmente não sendo um solo. Na noite do seu 73º aniversário, o músico terá uma convidada, a harpista norte-americana Jacqueline Kerrod.
